Ezequiel Álvarez Castro

• Degree in Pharmacy by the Universidade of Santiago de Compostela (USC, Spain) and PhD in Cardiovascular Pharmacology (2002). 
• Postdoctoral stage (2004-2007) in Centro de Investigações en Ciencias da Saúde (Beira Interior University, Covilhã, Portugal). 
• Researcher (Isidro Parga Pondal Program) and professor at Medicine Department of the USC (2007–2011).
• Post-doctoral researcher at Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS), from 2012 to 2020.
• Assistant professor of the USC. From 2020- 
   

Expertise: Cardiovascular Pharmacology, In vivo and in vitro experimentation with animals and cell cultures, In vitro vascular modelling in 3D and under flow, Ex vivo experimentation with vascular tissues, Molecular biology, Electrophysiology (patch-clamp), Immunocytochemistry and immunohystochemistry, Cellular signalling pathways.

Research interest: Cardiovascular pharmacology, Endothelial dysfunction, AGE (advanced glycation end-products), Oxidative stress, Cellular signalling, Atherosclerosis, Endothelial progenitor cells, New therapeutic targets, Drugs from natural origin, Drug discovery, In vitro 3D vascular modelling.
