About
Microglia are the brain's professional macrophages, encumbered by large numbers of apoptotic debris generated from development to brain diseases. In this talk, I will first share our recent data demonstrating that phagocytosis is not limited to garbage disposal, but triggers adaptations with regenerative potential. Next, I will share the journey of microglia as they become efficient phagocytes through development, revealing an unexpected early vulnerability period.
Bio
Amanda Sierra holds a BSc and a PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid. After her postdoctoral training in the USA, she became an Ikerbasque Research Professor at the Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience in 2011. She has served as secretary and vice-president of the SENC (2015-2019) and adjunct member of the Life Office at COSCE (2021-2025).
