About:
Our main research objective is the establishment of a program to investigate intrinsic and extrinsic regulations of hair and skin pigmentation during normal development and skin disorders. We have developed novel in vivo and in vitro tools to specifically target different skin compartments, including the hair follicle and melanocyte stem cell niches which can be used to report human disorders. In addition, we have generated 2D and 3D skin organotypic to study how pigment production and transfer are affected by extrinsic factors like UV irradiation and air pollution.
Bio:
Carlos Clavel received his BS and MS in Biological Sciences from Saint Louis University in the US. He finished his PhD training in Cell Therapy at the University of Navarra, Spain. Then, he joined the laboratory of Dr. Catherine Verfaillie in the US. He subsequently joined Dr. Michael Rendl’s laboratory at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NY. Carlos is now a Principal Investigator at the A*Star Skin Research labs of Singapore) where his group is focusing on understanding the regulation of the hair follicle stem cell niche and its implication in novel therapies for skin disorders.
