In the first talk of the Second Series of Conferences on Gender Equity and Inclusion, Professor Victor Arce presents his lecture entitled “Towards Sex- and Gender-Sensitive Medicine: Advances and Challenges”, addressing interesting aspects related to the concept of sex and gender in biomedical research and the gender perspective in contemporary medicine.
Summary:
The main objective of gender medicine is to analyse how biological factors (sex determinants) and social factors (gender determinants) influence people’s health, which makes it necessary to introduce a gender perspective in the prevention, management and treatment of any disease.
Bio:
Víctor Arce Vázquez is a Full Professor in the Department of Physiology at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He is the author of more than 50 scientific publications and has contributed to 25 book chapters. He has been invited to speak at 13 national and 5 international conferences. In addition, as a supervisor of doctoral students, he has overseen 10 PhD theses.
