About
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is still a major global public health problem, despite the availability of effective hepatitis B vaccination. The chronic HBV infection is believed to be associated with inefficient innate and adaptive immune responses that fail to eradicate the virus. Cure from chronic HBV infection with currently used treatments is rare, highlighting the necessity for development of novel immunotherapy options.
Bio
Dr. Forough Golsaz Shirazi is an Associate Professor of Medical Immunology at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). Her main academic field is Immunology, with a specific focus on HBV infection and immune response to it. She has rich experience in establishing HBV infection in hepatocyte cell lines, evaluating the interaction between innate immunity and HBV infection. She has profound technical and analytical knowledge in the production of murine and human-murine chimeric monoclonal antibodies. By generating murine and chimeric monoclonal antibodies, I have evaluated the impact of mutations in HBV surface antigen on the reactivity of neutralizing antibodies.
