Scientific publishing: the editorial process and a career as an editor

Alfredo Giménez-Cassina, PhD.

Senior Editor at Nature Metabolism (Springer Nature).

8 March 2024 13:00–14:00

Theatre Room, CiMUS

As a researcher, scientific publishing in peer-reviewed journals is essential to ensure the visibility of the work in the scientific community and to foster debate and discussion, thus promoting scientific progress. This talk will provide insider’s insight into the editorial process, including submission, editorial handling and peer-review. The everyday aspects of the job as a full-time editor, and the pros and cons of the job, will also be discussed.

Alfredo Giménez-Cassina received his PhD from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He then pursued postdoctoral studies at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, Boston. Alfredo led his own independent research group, first at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, and soon after at the Centro de Biología Molecular “Severo Ochoa”, Madrid, focusing on mechanisms that integrate cell signaling and metabolic flux in the central nervous system. He joined Nature Metabolism in 2021.
