Abstract:

DNA damages induced by natural and synthetic products are associated with several diseases as cancer. This conference aims to provide a theoretical-practical approach of the most internationally accepted experimental procedures such as Ames tests, micronucleus test, and Comet assay, for evaluating mutagenic and genotoxic activities of products, besides their applications in the biological and health areas.

Bio:

PhD in Biological Sciences at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (2003).

1995- present: Professor at Lutheran University of Brazil (ULBRA), Canoas, RS, Brazil

2005 - present: Advisor at Course of Graduate of Cellular and Molecular Biology Applied to Health.

Career focus: Research and tests of toxicity and mutagenicity of pharmaceutical compounds, bioactive products and environmental samples.

Experience in evaluation of mutagenicity using Ames test (Salmonella/microsome assay) and micronucleus test and genotoxicity using comet assay.
