Molecular insights into doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity: a dose-dependent murine model

 

Chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity refers to cardiac dysfunction associated with cancer treatment. In this work, we developed a progressive-dose murine model of doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity to characterize dose-dependent mechanisms and the associated functional, histological and molecular alterations. We also identified a profile of differentially expressed cardiac microRNAs according to the degree of cardiac damage.

2014-2018: Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).
2018-2019: Master’s degree in Translational Biomedical Research (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Vall d’Hebron Institut de Recerca).
2022-present: PhD student in the Cardiovascular Area at CiMUS, studying chemotherapy-related cardiotoxicity using both in vitro and in vivo models.

Targeting the Renin–Angiotensin System in Parkinson's Disease: Insights from Brain-Derived Extracellular Vesicle Proteomics 

 

Brain-derived extracellular vesicles provide a minimally invasive approach to investigate cell type-specific molecular changes occurring in the central nervous system. In this seminar, we will present how proteomic profiling of neuronal and glial derived extracellular vesicles revealed the molecular effects of the angiotensin II receptor blocker candesartan in patients with Parkinson's disease. Our findings provide the first direct molecular evidence of ARB-induced neuroprotective mechanisms in PD and support the potential of extracellular vesicles as biomarkers for therapeutic monitoring.

CV highlights:

Laura Camacho Meño is a PhD student in Neuroscience at CiMUS, University of Santiago de Compostela. She holds a BSc in Biology from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master's degree in Neuroscience from the Autonomous University of Madrid. She is currently completing her PhD within the Cell and Molecular Neurobiology of Parkinson’s Disease Research Group, where her research focuses on the role of the renin–angiotensin system in Parkinson’s disease using multi-omics approaches and brain-derived extracellular vesicles to investigate disease mechanisms.
