From Tumor Genomics to Liquid Biopsy: Translational Tools for Precision Immunotherapy
Mónica Martínez-Fernández
Principal Investigator, Translational Molecular Oncology. IIS Galicia Sur, Hospital Álvaro Cunqueiro (Vigo)
Theatre room, CiMUS
About
The talk will outline Dr. Martínez-Fernández’s current translational research aimed at improving immunotherapy patient selection. It will present NGS-based strategies using liquid biopsy and tumor profiling in lung, bladder, and renal cancers. Epigenetic regulation will be discussed as an additional layer of information, including exploratory work on transposable element activity. Ongoing efforts to translate ctDNA-based findings into clinically usable tools will be highlighted. The session will offer a practical perspective on precision oncology from bench to bedside.
Bio
Dr. Mónica Martínez-Fernández is a Miguel Servet Researcher leading the Translational Molecular Oncology Unit at the Galicia Sur Health Research Institute (Hospital Alvaro Cunqueiro, Vigo). Her work explores how molecular mechanisms influence response to
cancer immunotherapy. She focuses on lung, bladder, and renal cancers, with a strong emphasis on clinical relevance. She leads competitive research and innovation projects supported by ISCIII, Xunta de Galicia (ACIS), and the “la Caixa” Foundation. Her talk will
highlight translational and precision oncology approaches with direct clinical impact.
