Ángel Carracedo, new full member of the Royal National Academy of Medicine in the field of Forensic Medicine

Ángel Carracedo Álvarez, a researcher at the USC’s CiMUS, has been elected as a full member in the field of Forensic Medicine at the Royal National Academy of Medicine of Spain, following a vote by the institution’s current members at their latest governing board meeting.  

He will occupy seat 19 and will play a key role in the preparation and review of studies, research and publications related to medicine and health; he will contribute to the promotion of medical knowledge by providing advice on scientific matters; and he will participate in museum-related work and in the weekly debate sessions organised by the Academy. He will also contribute to the journal Anales (www.analesranm.es) and to the updating of the Pan-Hispanic Dictionary of Medical Terms (www.dptm.es), amongst other activities.

A world leader in forensic genetics and forensic medicine

Ángel Carracedo is one of the most internationally renowned figures in forensic genetics and forensic medicine. A professor at the USC and director of the CiMUS Genomics Group, he has been a pioneer in the implementation and standardisation of forensic DNA testing worldwide. He has contributed to the development of humanitarian forensic medicine in the identification of victims of disasters, conflicts and humanitarian crises. The author of over 900 scientific publications and with an outstanding international track record, he currently leads various institutions and strategic programmes in genomic medicine and has received some of the most prestigious national and international scientific awards.
