New medical residents discover the potential of biomedical research at IDIS and CiMUS

The Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS) and the Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CiMUS) hosted an introductory session on biomedical research aimed at first-year residents (R1) who have recently joined their Specialized Health Training programmes.

The initiative aimed to introduce newly incorporated residents to the research ecosystem available in Santiago de Compostela and to highlight the opportunities that biomedical research offers as a complement to their clinical training in both centres. 

Following the introductory session, participants toured the IDIS and CiMUS facilities, where they visited laboratories, core scientific platforms and research spaces, gaining first-hand insight into the centres' research environment.

During the event, the Scientific Directors of IDIS and CiMUS, María Luz Couce and Mabel Loza, presented the missions, research areas and infrastructures of both institutions, emphasizing the importance of integrating research into clinical practice from the early stages of a helthcare professiona's career.

Participants were introduced to the wide range of resources, scientific programmes, training activities and collaborative opportunities available through IDIS and CiMUS, as well as the different pathways they can become involved in research projects alongside leading scientists and clinicians.

By fostering early contact with the biomedical research environment, both institutions aim to encourage the development of clinician-scientists capable of translating scientific knowledge into improvements in patient care and healthcare innovation.

This initiative reflects the commitment of IDIS and CiMUS to promoting research excellence and supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals in combining clinical practice with scientific inquiry.
