The BCBL shared its model of scientific excellence at CiMUS of USC

El Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL), one of the leading international centers for interdisciplinary research on cognition, the brain and language, shared today at CiMUS its experience in scientific excellence, management, and international positioning. The session focused on examining the center’s trajectory, organizational model, and the strategies that have helped consolidate its global standing.

During the meeting—co‑organized by CiMUS and CiQUS, and funded by the Regional Ministry of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training and by Galicia ERDF Funds (2021–2027)—the BCBL’s scientific director and managing director presented the center’s scientific vision, its management structure, and the institutional evolution since its foundation in 2008 in Donostia–San Sebastián. The session also addressed the center’s experience in the SOMMa Alliance excellence accreditations (Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu), recognitions that distinguish some of the most outstanding scientific institutions in the Spanish R&D system.

The event, attended by centers belonging to the CiQUS Network, offered a valuable opportunity to learn first-hand how a leading research center designs its scientific strategy, organizes its management structures, and participates in national and international excellence networks. The session was mainly aimed at research center directors and management profiles, although it also attracted interest from principal investigators and group leaders involved in strategic planning, scientific governance, and excellence accreditation processes.
