CiMUS welcomes the Director of the Spanish State Research Agency to showcase the strength of biomedical research in Galicia

•    Dr. José Manuel Fernández de Labastida met with the centre's research staff as part of his institutional visit to Galicia. 

The CiMUS of the USC welcomed the Director of the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), Dr. José Manuel Fernández de Labastida, on Wednesday as part of an institutional tour of the leading centres of excellence within the CiGUS Network, co-funded by the European Union through the ERDF Galicia 2021–2027 Programme, as well as the Institute of Heritage Sciences (Incipit-CSIC) in Santiago de Compostela.

During the visit, Dr. Fernández de Labastida was accompanied by Lourdes Armesto, Director of Scientific and Technical Management at the AEI; Gonzalo Arévalo, Senior Advisor to the Director-General; María José Mariño Fontenla, Head of Talent and Knowledge Transfer at the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) of the Regional Government of Galicia; Irene Bonome, from the Regional Government's Subdirectorate-General for the Promotion of University Science and Technology; and Almudena Hospido, Vice-Rector for Research and Open Science at USC.

The visit provided an opportunity to present CiMUS' scientific strategy, engage in discussions with the centre's researchers, and showcase some of its cutting-edge biomedical research projects. This visit forms part of the Director of the Spanish State Research Agency's institutional tour of several Galician research centres, highlighting Galicia's scientific excellence and the role of the CiGUS Network as a driving force for internationally competitive, high-impact research. We sincerely appreciate this visit, which strengthens collaboration between research institutions and centres while helping to raise the visibility of the talent, research infrastructures, and R&D&I capabilities that define Galicia's research ecosystem.
