CiMUS welcomes a visit from the R&D&I Policy Network

  • CiMUS welcomes a visit from the R&D&I Policy Network (Red IDI)

The Singular Research Center for Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CiMUS) of the University of Santiago de Compostela welcomed a visit from the R&D&I Policy Network. During the morning, attendees of the plenary session of the R&D&I Policy Network—gathered at the Cidade da Cultura de Galicia for a meeting organized in collaboration with the Galician Innovation Agency—visited CiMUS and the IGFAE of the USC (both accredited at the regional level as part of the Xunta de Galicia’s CIGUS Network and at the national level as María de Maeztu Units of Excellence).

The R&D&I Policy Network (Red IDI) acts as a link between Spain’s autonomous communities and the General State Administration to facilitate resource mobilization and access to European funding in the fields of research, development, and innovation. It is also co‑funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which likewise supports the Xunta de Galicia’s CIGUS Network of Research Centers, to which CiMUS belongs.

The delegation included representatives from institutions such as the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), the Centre for the Development of Technology and Innovation (CDTI), the Ministries of Science and Innovation and of Finance, as well as members of regional research agencies and autonomous regional governments, among other organizations.

The visit was guided by CiMUS Deputy Director José Luis Labandeira, together with the center’s research and technical staff, who presented the main research programs in molecular biomedicine and chronic diseases, as well as the center’s technological capabilities and scientific services. During the tour, attendees visited the laboratories of the InnoPharma Platform, part of EU‑OPENSCREEN ERIC, one of the reference laboratories, as well as the chemical compound library, showcasing key infrastructures for drug discovery and the development of new therapies. In this context, the translational approach of the research carried out at CiMUS was highlighted.

Throughout the day, the role of CiMUS in talent attraction, collaboration with the healthcare system, and knowledge transfer to the socio‑economic fabric was also discussed, consolidating its position as one of the leading biomedical research centers in Galicia. The visit allowed members of the Red IDI to gain first‑hand insight into the center’s infrastructures and scientific impact, strengthening synergies among the different administrations and stakeholders within the R&D&I system.
