Excellence training at CiMUS: Summer Scholarships 2023
During the month of July, CiMUS offers 14 grants to undergraduate students who wish to approach research.
The CiMUS announces the VI Edition of its Summer Fellowship Programme «CiMUS Summer School», offering 14 fellowships available for undergraduate students who wish to have their first research experience in the field of Life Sciences. The aim of the fellowships is to finance research stays at CiMUS during the month of July.
During their stay in July (from the 3rd to 31st), the selected candidates will have the opportunity to develop a brief research project under the supervision of a principal investigator of the center, framed in the 3 areas of CiMUS research: Precision Medicine, Basic Mechanisms of disease and New Medicines. The objective is for students to be integrated into a dynamic and competitive research environment and to work on issues at the frontier of knowledge. In addition, they can participate in all the scientific activities of the center.
Fellowships include 750 € (gross salary) and financial assistance to cover travel expenses for students not living in Santiago de Compostela, with a maximum of 250 € for students coming from outside Galicia and a maximum of 80 € for students coming from Galicia.
What to comply, what to submit and where to submit it.
Candidates must have passed 55% of the credits of their undergraduate studies in Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Chemistry or other related degree, from any university, with an average grade equal to or higher than 8.0 (on a scale of 10).
Interested applicants must submit the required documentation through the Electronic Headquarters of the University of Santiago de Compostela, using the application form available at the following address: https://sede.usc.es/formularios/solicitudes/InvestigacionBolsasVeran.htm addressed to the Servicio de Convocatorias y Recursos Humanos de I+D, before 8 June at 23:59 h (CEST). The following documentation must be attached to the application form:
- Copy of the academic transcript of the degree or equivalent qualification with the grades obtained and the average mark in base 10. In the event of having studied abroad in a language other than English, the transcript must be submitted with the official translation into Spanish or Galician.
- Copy of the proof of enrolment for the academic year 2022/2023 or supporting document issued by the corresponding university.
- Curriculum vitae of the applicant.
- Letter of motivation with the expression of interest in obtaining the scholarship.
- Selection in order of preference of 5 eligible research groups from the centre.
Applications will be ranked according to the following criteria, out of a maximum score of 10 points:
- Applicant's academic record, which will account for 70% of the evaluation obtained.
- Curriculum vitae, which will take into account publications, awards and training related to the object of the scholarships, among other aspects. This section will account for 20% of the evaluation obtained.
- Expression of interest of the applicants formulated in the letter of presentation, which will account for 10% of the evaluation obtained.
