Tribute to María José Alonso at the IES de Carrizo high school, which bears her name

  • Today the official event took place with the presence, among others, of the director of the CiMUS of the USC, Mabel Loza.

The Santa María de Carrizo Secondary Education Institute, in the Leonese town of Carrizo de la Ribera, has been renamed Doctora María José Alonso. The educational centre thus adopts the name of one of its most illustrious neighbours, the scientist María José Alonso, who was born in this municipality in 1958 and has become a reference in Spanish research and the 2021 National Research Award.

The Department of Education of the Government of Castilla y León today held a tribute ceremony for this reason with a visit to the centre and a subsequent meeting with the students, and the official name change event at the Carrizo Culture Center. The main researcher of CiMUS, María José Alonso, was accompanied, among others, by the scientific director of CiMUS, Mabel Loza, representing the centre.

María José Alonso is grateful for this recognition, stating that "none has touched my heart like this one has touched me. The warmth and affection of my people make me immensely happy. My time at the institute was the reason for my career."
