Definition:
The CiMUS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee follows the III Strategic Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men of the USC.
This Committee represents the Centre’s commitment to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and diverse scientific environment in which all individuals can fully develop their professional careers. Created at the end of 2019, its aim is to establish itself as a benchmark within the Galician scientific community, capable of identifying and addressing specific issues that limit full participation and talent development, as well as removing structural barriers that hinder professional performance under equal conditions.
At present, the Committee is composed of five members of CiMUS and is coordinated by Professor Noemi Csaba, principal investigator of the Natural Polymers and Biomimetics group. Among its priorities for the coming months are the promotion of co-responsible work–life balance measures, the improvement of occupational health and safety conditions from an inclusive perspective, and the development of a comprehensive equity and diversity plan that reflects the various realities within the scientific community.
The Committee has implemented several initiatives, including the creation of a breastfeeding space, measures to support work–life balance for pregnant women (providing a workspace outside the laboratory for preventive reasons), the organisation of discussion panels on equality and gender-related topics, and outreach activities aimed at different audiences (school and secondary school students). It has also delivered public engagement talks in various educational centres and run educational workshops in collaboration with the AAECC for primary school students as part of the 11 February celebrations.
Please find here the current action plan of the Committee.
