The scientific direction of the center is made up of the Scientific Director and the Deputy Director, both are members of the Government Commission.

Professor of Pharmacology and Scientific Director of CiMUS, she is a leading figure in the field of early drug discovery in Spain. Throughout her career, she has led over one hundred public-private collaboration projects, contributing to the development of 17 new compounds up to the clinical phase. She has been a pioneer in open innovation, coordinating initiatives such as I2D2, Cancer Innova, and the “Rescata COVID” programme. Her commitment to knowledge transfer is reflected in 19 patents and the co-founding of four biotechnology companies, including Oncostellae. With more than 250 scientific publications and 26 supervised doctoral theses, she has also represented Spain on European platforms such as EU-OPENSCREEN and has advised international agencies. She has received several accolades, including recognition from EFPIA, which named her among the 30 most prominent scientists in Europe.

Professor of Human Anatomy and Embryology and Deputy Director of CiMUS, he leads the consolidated research group on neurodegeneration and Parkinson’s disease. A trained neurologist, he is a principal investigator in CIBERNED, TERCEL, and RICORDs-TERAV, networks of the Carlos III Health Institute. Over the course of his career, he has led more than 50 competitive projects and authored over 200 scientific publications, in addition to holding several licensed patents for Parkinson’s treatment. He has played a key role in R&D management, serving on regional and national advisory boards, steering committees of scientific networks such as CIBERNED and TERCEL, and strategic areas such as Neuroscience at IDIS. Furthermore, he served for a decade as Associate Editor of the journal Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology (Springer).
