Alejandro Fuentes Iglesias is a postdoctoral researcher interested in the role of epitranscirptomic modifications in aging and rejuvenation, especially in RNA methylation. He carried his Ph.D. (February 2023) in the Stem Cell and Human Diseases group at the Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CiMUS) at the University of Santiago de Compostela under the supervision of Dr. Miguel Fidalgo and Dr. Anxo Vidal. His doctoral thesis was focused on the contribution of Inosine RNA modification in promoting proper Endoplasmic reticulum homeostasis during somatic cell reprogramming. This research culminated in a paper published in Cell Stem Cell, that was awarded with the Premio de Investigación Ernesto Viéitez Cortizo Award from Real Academia Gallega de Ciencias (RAGC). Then, he joined the Epitranscriptomics & Ageing (EpiAgeing) group at CiMUS, led by Dra. Diana Guallar, to continue exploring the role of RNA modifications in aging.
